Crime has consequences. At Newbiggin Beach, offenders carried out tough community punishment to help improve the local coastline through unpaid work that benefits the community. @CMcKinnellMP joined the local project to see the work in action.

As Minister for Prisons, Probation and Reducing Reoffending I visited HMP Brixton today to meet the impressive team and thank them for their service. Good to also drop in to the workshop to meet prisoners learning construction skills to support them to find work when they leave.

We are investing £18.9 million in additional victims support, including a new national helpline and more funding for local and specialist services. This new funding comes on top of £550 million committed to victims’ services over the next three years.

For too long, victims weren't at the heart of the justice system. We're changing that. More offences are blocked from sentencing changes, and we're introducing strict monitoring on release to keep victims and the public safe. Hear from Victims Minister @AlexDaviesJones ⬇️

Alcohol can be a driver of offending behaviour. That's why monitoring tags are used to enforce alcohol restrictions imposed by the courts to hold offenders accountable and reduce reoffending.

I'm determined that no victim should have to look over their shoulder, change their routine, or live in fear of crossing paths with the person who harmed them. That's why we're introducing tough new restrictions on sexual and violent offenders, confining them to areas just a few miles wide and using GPS technology to monitor their movements. Victims will have a say in setting these boundaries, giving them greater freedom, peace of mind and the confidence to get on with their lives. It's simple: offenders should carry the consequences of their crimes, not their victims.
