Mobile, last night was amazing! Thank you to everybody who came out to kick off our Rally for Alabama tour, and to my good friend @jasonisbell for bringing the house down. We’ve got 40 days to go, and we’re going to spend every one of them taking this campaign to folks in every corner of Alabama. With your help, we’re going to win this thing on November 3! The community at Jackson-Olin High School is like no other. Thank you to everyone who let me celebrate Alumni Weekend with you! That Mustang Pride is strong!

What an honor it was to introduce the world premier of “Growing Up with Atticus” to kick off the centennial season of The Virginia Samford Theater, and to be able to visit with the amazing stars Cecilia Peck, daughter of the great Gregory Peck, and Birmingham’s own Mary Badham, aka “Scout.”  It was at times moving, at times poignant, at times funny, but at all times worthy of the inspiration and admiration for Atticus Finch and “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

We had an amazing crowd in Mobile on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who came out for our joint town hall with @EnslerPhillip , including so many of our elected officials. South Alabama is so important to the future of this state, and it was great to hear directly from you about the issues affecting Mobile County, from port expansion and health care to education and protecting Mobile Bay, because these issues not only affect this county but our entire state.

On more than one occasion in my life I have taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. For me that oath was so much more than holding an office, it was an acknowledgment of principles that have guided me both personally and professionally; principles that too many take for granted, too many ignore and too many twist for their own political purposes. Today is Constitution Day. Take time to read it and understand the fundamental rights, freedoms and liberties that are enshrined in it. And take time to thank God for the blessings on all of us that the amazing document bestowed on us.

$6 diesel is crushing Alabama farmers, truckers and shrimpers. And when it costs more for them to do their jobs, we all pay more. Tommy Tuberville? He takes a knee.

Today, I unveiled my plan to reshape the role of lieutenant governor in Alabama with @EnslerPhillip . Right now, the lieutenant governor serves as president of the State Senate while also standing next in line to the governor. The current structure leaves the office with a diminished role in state government and I want the lieutenant governor to play a more strategic role in the executive branch. When we are elected, Phillip will have a seat at the table in my administration as a member of my cabinet. We’ll also work to amend our state Constitution so future governors and lieutenant governors run for office together as a ticket just as the President and Vice-President. Currently 27 states elect their governor and lieutenant governor together.

Addie Mae Collins. Cynthia Morris Wesley. Carole Robertson. Denise McNair. 63 years ago today, these four young girls were killed simply because of the color of their skin. As Dr. King said in his eulogy, they were “martyred heroines of a holy crusade for freedom and human dignity.” We cannot move forward without remembering where we’ve been. Earlier today Louise and I attended the annual memorial service at the 16th Street Baptist Church to honor their legacy and to recommit ourselves to doing our part, and encouraging others to do their part, to carry their legacy forward. The video that is posted was a small portion of one of my presentations about the prosecutions of the men responsible for the bombing. The cases had a profound effect on me and prosecution team as we touched history. Justice delayed was not justice denied.

First Baptist Church of Ensley has a rich history of faith, service, and leadership. The late Reverend Dr. Thomas Earl Gilmore, Sr. served there as pastor for more than three decades. A civil rights leader, he made history as Greene County’s first African American sheriff and became widely known as the “Sheriff Without a Gun” because of his commitment to nonviolence. Today, that legacy of service continues under Reverend Dr. Tyree A. Anderson, the church’s 15th pastor. Dr. Anderson brings more than 20 years of ministry and pastoral experience and also serves in leadership roles within the National Baptist Convention and the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention. We are grateful to Pastor Anderson and the First Baptist Church of Ensley family for their warm welcome and continued commitment to faith and community.

What a great day in Tuscumbia on Labor Day. Food, fun, a parade and a Bama jersey autographed by Joe Namath! Organized labor has worked so hard and for so long for the workers in Alabama, it’s time that Alabama’s government did some work for them not always against them.

Change is happening in Shelby County. During the primary, Democratic turnout increased by 260%. @louisenewjones and I enjoyed spending yesterday afternoon with the Shelby County Democrats and so many of our strong Democratic candidates.

9/11 is a day of remembrance, but it is also a day of service. Today, we honor those who were killed, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless Americans who stepped up to help. In the days that followed, Americans came together in their communities to help their neighbors and take care of one another. We could use more of that spirit of unity and shared purpose today, much like what we saw today in Birmingham at 9/11 Day’s UNIITE for Good where volunteers packed more than 100,000 meals for Alabamians facing hunger. #uniiteforgood

Thanks to everyone who came out for our town hall in Tuskegee and to @ShomariFigures for joining us. For too long, communities across the Black Belt have been asked to do more with less. That has to change. Whether it’s keeping a hospital open, giving our kids a great education, or bringing good-paying jobs, the people of the Black Belt deserve a state government that shows up and invests in their future.
