Long in the making, but happy to present the Chlamydomonas chlororibosome! Cryo-ET🔬reveals a new domain on the small subunit, made by multiple extensions in conserved ribosomal proteins. Chlororibosomes might be more diverse than expected! bioRxiv 📖: shorturl.at/q44tG

Check out our new preprint on the discovery of a molecular switch in NAC that mediates nascent chain sorting on the ribosome and prevents mitochondrial protein mistargeting by SRP. A great collaboration with the Shan Lab @Caltech and the Qi Lab @UVA: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

The final version of our work on the in-cell architecture of the mitochondrial respiratory chain is now online in @ScienceMagazine 🎉 You can find the full story here science.org/doi/10.1126/scie… @luminous_lab did a wonderful job on the cover and animation👩‍🎨
In mitochondria, respiratory supercomplexes (blue) pump protons across crista membranes to create an electrochemical gradient, fueling adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase (pink) to regenerate ATP—the energy currency of life. Now, cryo–electron tomography captures these supercomplexes in their native organization, illuminating how the coordinated action of these molecular machines drives life’s fundamental energy conversion. Our new preprint is out: we solved the structures of HIV-1 matrix (MA) from intact virions by SPA. The structure led us to a surprising discovery resolving a long mystery in HIV-1 biology – peptide SP2 regulates the maturation of the HIV-1 matrix. 🧵1/x tinyurl.com/c7szhtfa

Finally got some time to properly test #RELION5 complete pipeline, starting from raw frames to STA. 22 tilt-series (from EMPIAR-11830), picking done with pytom, 14600 final particles, FSC 4.1-ish on the LSU (Nyquist bin1 3.8). Ofc it's a ribosome 😅 but now I can try with smth ..

.. more challenging. Lost my mind in tomogram and defocus handedness but it turned out ok in the end 😬 Had to do a bit of file tinkering, and there’s definitely room for improvement, but great potential there. I wish there was an easy way to import already aligned TS though.
