It’s A-Level results day. I failed all my exams. I’ve made more money than every teacher who ever taught me combined and now I own my own university that does over £30 million in sales annually. Yet growing up, I was told that if I didn’t do well in my exams, I wouldn’t be successful. They were wrong but that doesn’t mean education doesn’t matter. If your dream is to become a doctor, lawyer, engineer, accountant or enter any career where qualifications are the gateway your results do matter so go all in. Why are we not teaching kids how to run businesses? The Government has just announced new education pathways, helping young people qualify in AI, coding, advanced manufacturing and other technical industries. I think that’s a good thing. But we’re still preparing young people to become better employees, not entrepreneurs. You don’t build a thriving country with a growing economy by creating more employees alone. You do it by helping people build businesses that create jobs, develop new products and services, generate tax revenue and drive innovation. So why aren’t we teaching young people the fundamentals of business? Why aren’t they learning sales, marketing, cash flow, investing, taxation, leadership and how to start and grow a company? Financial and entrepreneurial education shouldn’t be something people discover at 25 after years of trial and error. It should be part of the curriculum. Haven’t they already “scrapped” digital ID once? Then brought it back in the King’s Speech. Now a new PM comes in, needs to win the country over, and scraps it again. Scrapped. Reintroduced. Scrapped again. What are the chances it comes back? I’ll be honest, digital ID isn’t going anywhere. It may disappear temporarily, get renamed or repackaged but it will be back.

Watching Conor McGregor last night reinforced something I’ve believed for a while. Your 20s are often about building, your 30s are about evolving, your 40s will demand something different again. Conor changed the UFC forever, built a global brand and created generational wealth. Nobody can take that away from him. You know what pisses me off about UK politics? Prime Ministers seem to come and go with no accountability for the damage they leave behind. Every couple of years, another leader resigns, gets removed, or steps aside and we’re told the next person is going to fix everything. How can any country have stability when the leadership keeps changing? Imagine trying to build a successful business if the CEO changed every two years, every new CEO comes in, changes the strategy, changes the rules, changes the structure, changes the priorities, and then leaves before the results of those decisions are fully felt. It would be chaos, yet that’s what we’ve seen happen in the UK time and time again. The consequences of political decisions often take years to show up. By the time they do, the person responsible is gone, somebody else is in charge and the blame gets passed around. Sometimes I wonder whether that’s exactly how the system is designed to work. Because if politicians stayed in power long enough, they’d have to own the long-term consequences of their decisions. Instead, it feels like they get to make the changes, create the problems and then disappear before the pitchforks come out. Maybe I’m wrong. But one thing is certain no country can build a clear long-term future if the people running it keep changing every couple of years. What’s your view?
