"Forgive them Lord, they know not what they do." If folks truly understood the inherent danger Covid represents, none of the current discourse would be happening. Forgive folks their ignorance, just keep them at arm's length, and don't let them stop you. :)

So weird though. I know people who are fully aware of Covid damage. They still tell me they would literally rather die early than wear a mask in public. Social acceptance used to be literally essential risk to immediate survival. It’s a very very strong instinct.

I'm also baffled by the 'die early' narrative. For the majority, that's not what's at stake. It never has been. Would you rather *age* early - be unable to enjoy things you loved - struggle to do the basics - maybe lose most of your friends - than take a few simple precautions?

I’ve seen this too. Generally it’s couched as “socialising is crucial for my mental health”, so ok, if that’s how you feel, why not wear a mask so you don’t exacerbate the LongCOVID you admit to having?

They need to fit in that much. Which until recently, and too often still, was a requirement for literal survival. So u see where it comes from it’s just out of date now.

I think it’s that, and also that people are playing the odds. People go out without a mask and don’t get sick. Or they have someone (eg a child, a partner) who can’t or won’t mask, and it feels futile. I mask, but I do recognize it can be tricky.

There’s a dying man who tweets here. He was in hospital and I suggested he might wear a mask. He literally said he’d rather die.
