I see a lot of people confused about just how land intensive solar and wind power is. This is from a report from Net Zero Australia that shows to get to net zero we could need 120,000 square km of land, or 12 million hectares in land for solar, wind and the associated transmission lines. Most of this land comes from freehold or leasehold farming land. This is one reason why farmers are mostly opposed to the large scale rollout of industrial wind and solar projects. Net Zero Australia say that this amount of land is "equivalent to over half the size of Victoria." It is also two times the size of Tasmania. Net Zero Australia is a consortium of the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, Princeton University and the Nous Group. They support the goal of net zero. I don't!
