Inflation is hurting working families across North Carolina and our nation. The Fed made the right decision yesterday to unanimously raise rates, and I thank Chairman Warsh for his leadership and displaying the independence needed to get prices under control for everyday Americans.

This is not the end for the Clarity Act. We've made substantial bipartisan progress in large part because of the White House. This procedural motion allows us to continue working towards a positive outcome.

Congratulations to @CissieGLynch on her nomination to serve as the U.S. Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom. President Trump made an excellent choice in selecting a North Carolinian who understands the importance of defending religious freedom at home and around the world.

President Trump is right: communism is an inhuman ideology that brings only death and destruction.   Vladimir Putin is the latest authoritarian carrying forward that brutal Soviet legacy, aligning with Iran and North Korea to undermine democracy. We have seen the savagery of that ambition firsthand in Ukraine.   "Win-win" strategies work in the private sector, but there is no middle ground between freedom and totalitarian aggression. We cannot accommodate a dictator bent on destroying sovereign democracies. American strength and resolve are the only answers.

In the aftermath of September 11th, our NATO Allies invoked Article 5 for the first time in history to answer the call to defend freedom. We will never forget the 2,459 American servicemembers and 1,100 coalition servicemembers, including 457 from the UK and 158 from Canada, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in Afghanistan. America remains forever grateful to Allies for answering the call and for their sacrifice.

25 years ago, our nation was forever changed. Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, honor the heroes who answered the call and pray for the families who carry that loss. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11th, I am reminded of the remarkable story of Operation Yellow Ribbon. When American airspace closed after the attacks, more than 6,500 stranded travelers were welcomed by the people of Gander, Newfoundland who housed and fed them until the crisis was over. In our darkest hour, our Canadian neighbors demonstrated extraordinary compassion.

Susan and I are praying for the brave CMPD officer shot in the line of duty this morning, their family and the entire CMPD community. We are grateful the officer is in stable condition and wish them a full and speedy recovery.

I thank @SecArmy Dan Driscoll for his leadership to our Army and service to our country. Dan was the right man at the right moment to lead our Soldiers and Army civilians. Our understanding and assumptions of warfare are being challenged in places like Ukraine and Iran, and Dan understands the old way of doing business no longer applies. He and General George began a transformative period of innovation in how we array our forces and equip our Soldiers. He challenged our legacy approach to manning and procurement. Most of all, he cared deeply about the men and women in our Army formations and quickly earned their respect. If we had a @SecWar who maintained the same priorities and forward-thinking, he would be fighting to retain talented leaders like Dan and the many flag officers he has forced into retirement. Instead, he is creating a leadership void at the top of our military ranks. I served on Senate Armed Services for 8 years and as chair or ranking member of the Personnel and Readiness subcommittee. I have never witnessed more inept management of the brave men and women who serve our country. He is intimidated by competence and retreats to ginning up culture wars instead of soberly attending to the vital work of our national defense and the health and well-being of our fighting force.
