My Grandma passed away this past Sunday.
She had late-stage Alzheimer's.
Over the past 2 months, she lost the urge to eat, the ability to drink through a straw, the ability to chew and swallow solids or liquids, and the ability to talk.
My parents and I were taking turns going to get long term care facility at her dinner time, first to feed her and try to get her to eat.
Later it was to get her to drink all of her Boost Breeze (it's like a juice version of Ensure).
She was a huge part of my life. I'm so glad that I've been able to spend so much time with her, especially since she had to move to assisted living.
On Friday I spent almost 2 hours with her. She was in bed, and couldn't talk at that point.
But she opened her eyes when I was talking to her, and I talked about a lot of wonderful memories I had with her.
I'm so thankful to have had her in my life. I'm very glad she's at peace now.
I was her first grandchild, and she was so thrilled to have a grandchild, even though I wasn't actually a blood relative and she met me when I was four.
Thank you for everything, Grandma. I love you.
