On 9/25—Dolly’s “9 to 5” day—Manhattan celebrated Dolly Parton Appreciation Day 💖 Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal made it official with a proclamation honoring Dolly’s legacy. At Vanderbilt University–New York City’s beautiful historic campus in Chelsea, NYC Public Schools Chancellor Kamar H. Samuels read The Coat of Many Colors to the children. Ellen Cassedy, co-founder of the 9to5 movement that inspired Dolly’s hit, shared its story in her remarks. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, children receive free books that inspire a love of reading, support early literacy, and spark their imaginations. The children received books at the celebration, which also featured music, dancing, and a four-piece band performing “9 to 5,” with a saxophone solo. 📚🎷💛

Today is officially Dolly Parton Appreciation Day in the Borough of Manhattan

Manhattan is home to people from every corner of the world, and everyone who makes a home here deserves to know where to turn for help. On Tuesday, September 29, we’re opening Manhattan’s Immigrant Welcome Center at our Northern Manhattan Office. The center will connect immigrant New Yorkers with social service organizations, legal service referrals, and city resources. Join us for the ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. at 431 West 125th Street. I hope to see you there.

After a series of tragic pedestrian deaths across Manhattan, it's time we take bold action to protect Manhattanites.   That's why I'm supporting Majority Leader @ShaunAbreu's bill to pilot Low-Traffic Neighborhoods, or LTNs, across the city.    The bill would require the City to install at least two different types of traffic-calming devices in five city neighborhoods, like speed humps, medians or barriers at intersections to force drivers to slow down.

Homecare workers are essential workers. But too many are still struggling to make ends meet while caring for the people our families depend on.   Today, I joined my elected colleagues to celebrate that nearly 70K NY homecare workers filed to join @1199SEIU. With 190K workers eligible to unionize, it could be one of the largest unionizations in U.S. history.    Homecare workers show up for us everyday. Now it's time we show up for them.

Proud to join the 32nd annual Mexican Day Parade today as we filled Madison Avenue with music, dancing and Mexican pride. Manhattan is stronger and more vibrant because of our Mexican community and the generations of Mexican New Yorkers who have helped make our borough what it is today.
