During the 2019 federal election, Bill Shorten's franking credits policy fell victim to a highly effective disinformation campaign that misled non-shareholders into thinking they'd lose money. ​ The "Big Build scandal" is the 2026 version of the Franking Credits disinformation campaign. ​After 7 months of accusations, and zero factual evidence of wrongdoing, here are two key pieces of data that directly contradict the allegations: ​ 1. Construction cost growth in VIC is well below the national average (see below pic): Since December 2014, VIC construction cost increases have risen significantly less than the national average—and lower than both NSW and QLD. If allegations of union money siphoning was as systemic in VIC as claimed, construction cost increases would be higher, not lower. Moreover, if costs are higher in other states and the allegations are true, why is the finger solely being pointed at Victoria? 🤔 ​ 2. The numbers don't add up: So far, a little over $100B has been spent or allocated to the Big Build. Metro Tunnel, Westgate Tunnel, NE Link and 110 level crossing removals account for at least two thirds of that cost. Then you add new trains, numerous rail upgrades, numerous road upgrades and new hospitals. The projects I have listed are either completed or close to completion. So you need to ask yourself—If $15B has been stolen (some are claiming it’s as high as $30B), how did these projects get completed? Wouldn’t there be a shortage of funds? The haters will believe what they wanna believe. But if you have any doubts about the claims, look into it yourself before casting your vote. Then you can determine for yourself who the real scammers are.
