Some billed while they were out of the country. Arrests happened September 10, 2026 and charges were announced this week. They face wire fraud and, in some cases, money laundering. Nick Shirley and local investigator Amy Reichert flagged several of these sites months earlier. Spending $10 million on luxury with fruad money will buy you a luxury jury.

It's becoming pretty clear Nick, they admit that this fraud has been going on for years while patting themselves on the back in press conferences to expose it now. So, why wasn't it found before? Who was getting benefit from looking the other way? Did it come in the form of campaign money, votes or favors? When Democrats say the illegals are coming to America for a better life I think we completely misunderstood what they meant.

This $10 million San Diego ghost-daycare scheme landed at the feet of the sitting Controller. The State Controller is California’s independent chief fiscal officer. The office is constitutionally charged with accounting for state funds, auditing agencies that spend those funds, and protecting taxpayer dollars from fraud, waste, and abuse. That duty includes the subsidy streams that paid these licensed “ghost daycares.” Twelve providers billed for children who were never there. Some submitted claims while they were not even in the country. The payments flowed through established state-supported programs. Federal investigators had to make the case. The Controller’s Office did not stop it. @CAController Malia Cohen holds that office today. This fraud occurred on her watch. As Controller I will use the office’s existing audit authority the way it was designed: continuous review of high-risk subsidy payments, public ledgers, and rapid referral when billing does not match reality. Working families should receive the childcare funds. Empty houses should not. #RadicalTransparency
