Alan Watts makes an interesting point here. If my mind is talking to me, then who’s talking and who’s listening? we usually don’t even notice how easily we confuse that inner voice with who we are. I messed up. I’m always like this. the goal isn’t to stop thinking. you can have a thought without letting it become your identity. you can plan for the future without giving away your whole present to something that hasn’t even happened yet. sometimes we get so caught up in the voice in our head that we forget we’re the ones listening to it.

but the real awakening, the kind that shakes you to your bones, often comes through difficulty.
