ALT While ionic liquids have been used as solvents in vaccine formulations, their effects on protein stability are poorly understood. Here, we have investigation the effects of imidazloium-based ionic liquids on ubiquitin. We find that the protein is destabilized owing to the global effect of hydrophobic interacations between protein surface and organic cations.
