A huge solution to low income housing need would be rebuilding the supply at scale to close that gap. It certainly wouldn't be what the government is doing in freezing construction and even thinking of eliminating remaining state housing provision (as per Bill English's report).

That's because, more than other welfare benefits, state housing is not provided enough to meet the need. NZ has tens of thousands fewer state houses, raw and per capita, than we did before National started selling them off in the 1990s. /1

Nonsense, taxing wealth/capital gains less than income encourages them to hoard money and not take risks with it (eg by investing in business activity) at all. A tax system that rewards rent-seeking and wealth hoarding over investment undermines economic growth.

It's easy to say it was 'an adjustment to public spending' when it's not your library being closed, your bus route disappearing, and when you can work around an NHS that can't treat you in a timely manner. Next time, people like him should have their lives adjusted.
