Here is an important takeaway from UNGA 2026: there is a major humanitarian catastrophe under russian occupation that almost no one at the UN is talking about, at least not publicly. In Oleshky, near Kherson, thousands of civilians are trapped without food, medicine, or a safe way out. Food was last delivered on May 26. Since then, attempts to bring in supplies have failed because vehicles came under russian fire. russian forces are also preventing residents from evacuating, reportedly killing people who attempt to leave the city. More than 6,000 people are still there, including around 200 children. Volunteers say people in local chats are discussing which weeds are safe to eat and how to make tea from tree bark. Ukraine has proposed evacuation routes and worked with international organizations, but russian forces have not confirmed that they will facilitate an evacuation. This is what russian occupation looks like. And this is what the United Nations should be talking about. 📡 Possible arson: a fire broke out at a Starlink ground station in Poland that provides connectivity across Eastern Europe, including Ukraine The fire erupted late in the evening in Wola Krobowska in the Masovian Voivodeship. It damaged parts of the station’s power infrastructure, including a generator. No one was injured. One of the main lines of investigation is the deliberate arson of an electrical switchboard. The incident has drawn particular attention because of previously documented activity by Russian intelligence services in Poland. Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the Central Bureau of Investigation Police were notified about the incident. Earlier, Ukrainian volunteer Serhiy Sternenko urged Kyiv residents to prepare for a difficult winter by keeping a basic fuel reserve and having a backup communications option, such as Starlink. He warned that Russia may try to leave Kyiv not only without electricity, but also without fuel and communications.
