Lindsey Isaacs spent 13 days in jail after investigators used data from a Flock automated license plate reader to find her SUV during an investigation into a crash that killed three people. But a 911 caller had described a maroon Dodge Durango and provided a partial license plate number that did not match hers. A later inspection found no crash damage to Isaacs’ vehicle. The charges were dropped, and another person was arrested. This week, Isaacs shared her story before a U.S. Senate subcommittee examining Flock’s nationwide camera network. Her case comes amid a growing debate over how automated license plate reader data is collected and used. Flock says its camera accurately recorded Isaacs’ SUV and that the data should have been treated only as an investigative lead. More than 65,000 people have signed a petition calling on lawmakers to ban ALPR surveillance systems nationwide, citing concerns about privacy, government overreach and potential misuse. “Call of Duty public multiplayer needs to feel casual again.” More than 9,000 Call of Duty players have signed a petition calling on Activision and the game’s development teams to remove skill-based matchmaking from standard, unranked public playlists. Skill-based matchmaking groups players with others of similar ability. Petition starter Tyler Smith, a gamer known online as @tdawgsmitty, argues that the system can make matches feel overly competitive, even when players just want to try a new weapon, unwind after work or play with friends at different skill levels. The petition asks Call of Duty to prioritize connection quality in public matches, keep skill-based competition in Ranked Play and provide more transparency about how its matchmaking works. Should skill-based matchmaking stay in Ranked Play only? In June, a shopper at a ShopRite in Stamford, Connecticut, was filmed telling another customer to "go back to your country" and "stay out of America." Content creator ThatDaneshGuy identified the woman as a nurse at The Nathaniel Witherell, a town-owned assisted-living facility in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she works directly with elderly residents. The facility said it was "deeply troubled" by the video and opened a review. But by July 23, according to the petition, it had reinstated her without any public update. Now, ThatDaneshGuy has started a petition calling on Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo to order an independent review of her continued employment and to remove her from any resident-facing role. For eight years, Albert Berto says he fed and cared for a colony of cats outside his Brooklyn home. Then, one morning, only one cat came when he shook their food can. Berto said he found seven cats dead beneath his deck, several bleeding from their noses and mouths. He later reported that more cats were found over the following week, bringing the death toll to 18 cats. Three raccoons were also reported dead. Berto said he fed the cats, took them to the vet, and had them neutered and microchipped. The New York Post reported that a private veterinarian found high levels of rat poison in one cat recovered later that week. Official necropsy results for the first seven cats were still pending at the time of the report. Berto and other neighbors told the Post they suspect a nearby resident may be responsible, citing the person’s past complaints about the cats. No suspect has been publicly identified. A petition is demanding the NYPD and the ASPCA follow through on fully investigating and charging whoever did this. Petition link: c.org/qLMzWp5m Photo: Albert Vincent Berto #animals #cats #crime

“We cannot stand by and let another family suffer such profound grief without taking action.” A petition launched after the death of 15-year-old Daria Serkov is calling for additional youth bike-safety measures in New York City. Serkov was killed after a truck struck the electric Citi Bike she was riding with another teenage girl. Police said the truck and bike were turning right at the intersection. The 16-year-old operating the bike survived and was reported in stable condition. The crash remains under investigation. Reports said neither teen was wearing a helmet. Under New York State law, bicycle riders under 14 must wear helmets; the requirement does not currently apply to all minors. The petition calls on Citi Bike to use ID verification to prevent anyone under 18 from unlocking its bikes. Separately, it asks NYC officials to expand helmet requirements to all minors. Should Citi Bike and NYC officials enact these changes? Petition link: c.org/zhfLbhfm 📸: NBC New York #biking #cycling #nyc #mamdani @janineyorio

Thousands are calling on Amazon to remove accounts that mass-publish AI-generated books, including titles available through Kindle Unlimited. Petition starter Treasure Obi, a debut romance author, says some accounts have published dozens of titles in a single year. Amazon currently limits Kindle Direct Publishing accounts to three new titles per day, but Obi argues that the policy does not go far enough. “These books are destroying the market. Authors don’t want them. Readers don’t want them,” Obi writes. The petition calls on Amazon to remove AI-generated book farm accounts from its platform and prevent new ones from monetizing similar content. Petition: c.org/JvCfngQv #books #ai #amazon #booktok

Navarre Beach Marine Park is a nesting area for sea turtles and threatened shorebirds on Florida’s Gulf Coast. It is also the proposed site of a new boardwalk and event hall. More than 10,000 people have signed a petition arguing that added light, noise and foot traffic could disturb nesting wildlife. Locals have also raised concerns about increased traffic, tourism tax spending and development on one of the beach’s remaining undeveloped areas. County officials say the project would not destroy any dunes, would comply with sea turtle lighting protections and could help keep pedestrians away from sensitive habitat. The county opened three construction bids on Sept. 17, with the lowest totaling $8.3 million. “Join us in protecting our vital dunes and the irreplaceable wildlife that calls Navarre Beach home,” reads the petition, started by Navarre Beach resident Erika Thomas. Should the project be halted? Petition link: c.org/fYpYQSc4 #seaturtles #animals #birds #florida

New Orleans has banned horse-drawn carriages since 1980, allowing only mules. Now, a petition is calling for the city to either ban carriage rides altogether or introduce independent inspections and stricter animal welfare rules. The petition starter says they launched the campaign after recently seeing a visibly exhausted mule struggling to stand upright in the French Quarter. The video featured in this post shows a separate incident from last year, when a mule became overstimulated by the noise, lights and crowds at the Krewe du Vieux parade and darted off the route. Incidents like these have fueled calls for greater protections for the city’s carriage mules. “Together, we can protect these creatures and ensure that no animal suffers for our entertainment,” the petition reads. A Bronx judge suggested an alternative-to-incarceration resolution tied to mental illness at Miguel Perez's most recent court date, according to supporters who attended the hearing. That option could let Perez complete court-ordered mental health treatment or counseling instead of serving time. The case stems from March, when prosecutors say Perez threw his family's cat, Shadow, from his 15th-floor Bronx window after the cat scratched him. He was indicted in May on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and torturing and injuring animals. A petition is calling on the Bronx District Attorney's office to prosecute Perez to the fullest extent of the law and ensure meaningful consequences for Shadow's death. A real estate firm is seeking access across roughly 1.1 acres of Yosemite National Park to build a short road connecting its 83-acre property to Big Oak Flat Road within the park. The road would bypass a circuitous route to Yosemite Valley that reportedly takes about 90 minutes. Kingsbarn Realty Capital is considering a lodge-and-cabin development on the property, though plans are not final. The Interior Department says no decision has been made and any proposal would be subject to legal requirements, environmental review, and public notice. Dalton Hunter, an outdoor and travel content creator focused on national parks, launched a petition urging federal officials to reject the proposal. Hunter argues that allowing a private development to obtain access through Yosemite could create a precedent for similar requests involving other national parks. “If a developer can obtain protected parkland because its property lacks a convenient entrance, every parcel bordering a national park becomes a candidate for the same request,” Hunter’s petition reads. When Major was hit by a car in March 2025, a bystander stopped to help the injured dog and was bitten. Austin Animal Control recommended euthanasia, and a court ordered that Major be put down. According to Major’s owner, Shane Lilly, the woman declined to testify in person because she does not believe Major should be killed. The court did, however, consider her written affidavit and medical records. Major has since spent more than 500 days isolated in a shelter while Shane fought the order through four state courts. Shane testified that he has a seizure disorder and that Major assists him with seizure response. City officials have cited the severity of the bites and concerns about Major’s behavior, while Shane argues that the circumstances of the incident and rehabilitation alternatives were not adequately considered. After a Texas appellate court refused to pause the order on September 3, Shane started a petition asking officials to spare Major and calling for Texas law to more explicitly account for provocation, victim testimony and corroborating evidence. A federal court has since temporarily paused the euthanasia while Shane’s disability lawsuit against Austin moves forward, but the underlying order remains. More than 20,000 people have signed.
