Enrique Espinosa, head of Lanzarote's Emergency Services Consortium, said a two-year-old boy was thrown into the sea from a migrant boat because he was crying. Espinosa made the statement during a Spanish radio interview while discussing the conditions aboard migrant boats crossing to the Canary Islands. His comments came as three men, aged 21, 25 and 30, were arrested over the alleged multiple sexual assault of a woman during a migrant-boat crossing to Lanzarote. The three men were remanded in custody. Espinosa said the toddler was travelling alongside his mother when he was thrown into the sea because he would not stop crying. He did not provide details about when the incident happened or identify who was responsible. A further disturbing incident has since been reported in the English Channel, where a migrant woman was carried off a Border Force boat at Dover on a stretcher before GB News reported that she had been stabbed to death during the crossing. The victim and her attacker have not been named, and no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the reported stabbing. These incidents highlight the dangers aboard overcrowded small boats, not only from the crossings themselves, but from the behaviour of some people travelling on them.
