With all the sudden hysteria about AI wiping us out, this is a real threat to consider.
Watch modern information based societies fall apart very quickly without critical space infrastructure. Its not an existential threat, but it does force us into a 'Mad Max' type scenario.
If it ever gets to a full NATO-Russia war (w/ US involved), there is little doubt that Russia will nuke LEO. It’s by far best & easiest option to level the playing field.
Pretty much all of NATO’s war planning then goes out the window as allies not prepared to fight w/o space.

The society wide hazard posed by unchecked A.I. is not.
Characterising it as “sudden hysteria” is head in sand behaviour.
Warnings from Bill Gates and 2024 Physics Nobel Laureate Professor Geoffrey Hinton are credible - not hysteria.

On what basis do you think it fantasy? Nuclear devastation of the space environment is possible with today’s weapons. AI doomsday is not (yet).
