Every single thing you want in life is on the other side of something that sucks. That suck might be 100 workouts, 100 bland meals, 100 hours of work, or 100 hard conversations. Embrace it. Pay the cost of entry with pride. The answers you seek are found in the actions you avoid.

The boring work is the price nobody can skip. The problem is most people aren't willing to repeat what feels painfully ordinary.

Fighting is the best way to learn this. Hours of hard training, but the feeling of winning is unmatched.

the 100 is the part people skip. not because it sucks, because it's long. what got me from 235 to 195 wasn't embracing anything. it was making the individual rep boring enough that i'd still do number 61 on a night i didn't want to.

I can't imagine you feel like working out sucks if you can persist through 100 of them I'd wager sometime between 10 and 20 you actually start to enjoy it.

To my mind everyone is doing this Still people are unhappy, miserable and frustrated Find out one thing that you want to give (not receive) this world. This is the thing you want yourself to be remembered for and you only could do it. That’s the purpose of this life.

You just said it all. All you said have been helping me out including grace of God.
Some days, my body feels like more than I can handle. I wanted a better hospital. A quicker change. It didn’t come when I hoped it would. Faith in Jesus Christ is what kept me. Not big church talk. Just holding on when the room was quiet and my legs wouldn’t help. "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness"--2 Corinthians 12:9. I still have hard days. I still have this chair. I still have work to do. But I was not left alone.

I understand the point about effort and discomfort, but I wouldn’t call every necessary step something that sucks. That framing drains my motivation before I even begin. Some things are difficult, repetitive, or uncomfortable, yes, but they can still feel meaningful when they’re connected to something I truly want.

The road to riches is not always paved with hardships. It’s the romantic way on how success has been presented in film. And it’s easy to digest that presentation because it makes us think that hardship leads to success. Something everyone can do. A formula of sorts. Some of the most successful people I look up have had a smooth ride once they found their path. Now, finding the path or the path finding you, that’s fucking hard, though some do stumble on it as well. Easy does it! Just like how snow finds its way to the sea from the mountain top by relying on gravity and finding the path of least resistance.

Agreed, with one addition: the cost of entry isn't a one-time payment. It's rent. The people who stay at the top are the ones who kept paying after everyone else assumed they'd arrived.

Doing the sucky thing actually wires you to somewhat "like" the sucky thing. Just this year they showed that dopamine spikes harder for the same reward when effort was involved in attaining it. When you couple that with psychological studies that also recently show there is meaning in the struggle/effort, it is a no-brainer: do the sucky thing and it will become something you don't think is sucky.

You already know what to do. But the answer requires repetition, boredom, rejection, disappointment, or doing something without an immediate reward.
