Del Somerville, 42, a father of two, gets two years in prison after taking part in the anti-migrant protest that took place in Portsmouth when another boatload of migrants was brought ashore.
The judge called him a thug and said his sentence was to deter others from engaging in anti-migrant disorder.
Yesterday, 781 migrants arrived in 10 small boats.
The sentence for illegally entering the country is four years. Not one of the 781 people were charged with illegal entry.
In the same week Somerville was sentenced, Peyman Afrasiyabipour, 27, an Iranian national who had been granted asylum in Britain four years earlier, admitted robbing a 69-year-old pensioner in South Shields. He was given two years in prison, suspended for two and a half years.
Two-tier enforcement. Two-tier justice. And a two-year hole in a man’s life for throwing a plastic bottle and swearing at the police.
The government cannot, or will not, stop the crossings, but they will jail anyone who causes a fuss about it.
